I'll share some my sister Asha's story because, as I said in my other blog post, she is very important! Okay, so it all basically started for Asha at a summer camp called Highland Retreat that we go to every year. We usually stay at Highland for a week with overnights and everything. The week before she had been scheduled to go to camp, she had been getting pretty nervous about it when every other year it had been no problem. She decided to go, despite her nerves. The first evening, we got a call from the camp nurse. Asha wanted to go home! We told her to stay overnight, and then see how she feels in the morning. In the morning she still wanted to go home! We had her come home and she decided that she wanted to stay at home the whole rest of the week. She had been going to Highland Retreat since about 1st grade and has loved it every year, so we knew that something was seriously wrong. Also, she had been having serious panic attacks. My mom took her to our family doctor and, just in case, we had a blood test done to see if she had Lyme. While we were at the beach that summer, we were waiting for the results from the blood test. My mom called the doctor and left a message asking what the results were for Asha. The nurse then left us a message saying that he told her that he had already given us the results for Asha. We were a little bit confused, but we figured we could just figure it out when we got back. (We eventually did figure it out, the doctor was thinking that we were asking about me.) The day after we got home from the beach, I was up organizing my room, Dad was outside, Asha was organizing her room, and mom went out to check the mail. I came downstairs a couple minutes later, and mom was staring confusedly and wide eyed at a piece of paper. I asked her what was wrong, and she said that she would tell me when Dad came in. A couple minutes later, Dad walked in. Mom told me to get Asha, so she came down. Mom just said plainly, "Asha has Lyme." '
About 6 weeks later, we got Asha to a specialty doctor in D.C.
